I received an unusual looking coin in change last week. The obverse is a reddish brown copper color while the reverse side looks like it is nickel plated. I would have said steel but it does not stick to a magnet.
The obverse looks a lot like some of the pictures about the mint making nickels out of cheaper materials due to the high cost of production.
Has anyone reported seeing any odd looking nickels (especially 2013-P)? Is it possible that this might also be a 5 cent piece struck on a foreign blank by mistake in the Philadelphia mint?
