1895 Barber quarters are generally not considered scarce in the circulated grade of Good, and that means it’s not difficult for the average coin collector to buy any well-worn quarter dollars of that date for their collection. Of course, as with any 19th-century coinage, the higher-grade pieces are costlier and more challenging to find. For the most part however, most numismatists courageous enough to attempt completing a date-and-mintmark set of Barber quarters will usually buy lower-grade pieces to help make the expensive task just a tad bit more affordable.

Here’s a breakdown of the 1895 Barber quarter mintages and values:

  • 1895 – 4,440,000; $13

  • 1895-O – 2,816,000; $18

  • 1895-S – 1,764,681; $27

  • 1895 proof – 880; $850

*Values are for coins in a grade of Good-4, unless otherwise noted.

The New Orleans (O) and San Francisco (S) mint Barber quarters from 1895 are the tougher dates. In fact, their mintages combined barely exceed the original output of their Philadelphia counterpart. However, it’s important to remember that the number of surviving 1895 quarters today is far lower than the original production figures.

As for the proof 1895 quarter, very few coin collectors will consider buying any, as they are too expensive for most people to buy, and finding them is challenging. What’s more, coin collectors who are assembling a set of business-strike coins won’t need to purchase any to complete that set.
