1909 Barber Quarter
Coin Info
1909 Barber quarters are considered highly common by most coin collectors and are widely available in grades ranging from well worn to uncirculated; however, the branch mint coins are generally tougher to find in mint state than their Philadelphia sibling. Generally, 1909 quarters find a huge following among type set coin collectors, most particularly the Philadelphia issue, which is the most readily available piece among the quarters from that year.
Here’s mintage and value information for 1909 quarters:
-
1909 – 9,268,000; $13
-
1909-D – 5,114,000; $14
-
1909-O – 712,000; $33
-
1909-S – 1,348,000 $16
-
1909 proof – 650; $850
*Values are for coins in a grade of Good-4, unless otherwise noted.
What may stand out most about the 1909 quarter is the scarceness of the New Orleans (O) mint, which is by no means a key date in lower circulated grades but definitely is a tougher coin. As a side note, 1909 would be the last year that the New Orleans mint struck coinage.
Be sure to take your time and search for examples of any 1909 quarters in a grade of full Good or better. The proof Philadelphia coin is quite scarce, though not necessary to complete a business-strike set of Barber quarters.
