    • Hello, Pastor Celeste --

Great question! On MOST (but not all) U.S. coins, no mintmark means the coin was minted at the Philadelphia Mint. However,Hello, Pastor Celeste --

Great question! On MOST (but not all) U.S. coins, no mintmark means the coin was minted at the Philadelphia Mint. However, there are exceptions. For example, from 1965 through 1967, none of the operating U.S. Mint branches used mintmarks. And during the 1970s and early 1980s, the San Francisco and West Point Mints struck circulating U.S. coinage but did not place their mintmarks on those coins. It is impossible to tell which mint struck which coins in those circumstances.

      Best,
      Josh
